photo lessons
I attended my first photography class in 1985. The three year long RODP program was held at Burroughs High School, in Glendale, California, and focused on commercial photography. Since then I have been involved in photography and constantly furthering my education in photography and design.
Education is time consuming and costly. Sometimes formal education cannot provide what you really want to know. I can help you speed through just about anything you need to know about photography and your camera without spending hours in a classroom. I have coached many photographers, professional and beginners. My lessons are tailored to your needs.
One-on-one lessons start at $30 per hour for any style of photography and camera use. Props, film, supplies and out of area additions will have an additional fee.

don't know where to start?
I believe everyone should own and know how to use a camera. Cameras are not just a fun hobby but a way to record your personal and family's history. Peoples skill levels, interests, and gear are diverse. Therefore, lessons are diverse and cover a wide range of topics that are designed to meet your needs. If you don't know where to start, that's o.k. Below are some photo lesson topics for the beginner to the pro. Call me and we will design a topics list for your lesson.
your gear
Basics of your camera gear. This is a good topic for the photo hobbyist. Every photo enthusiast needs to know what their camera gear is capable of producing. I will show you how to use your camera effectively. Topics that can be covered are f/stop, aperture, lighting, program modes, ISO, lens use, and file size to name a few.
composition
Composition rules are guidelines to help you decide what to include in your image. It is not just what is in your frame that makes a fantastic picture but how the elements are balanced. Composition rules covered are rule of thirds, balancing elements, leading lines, view point, background, depth, framing, cropping, experimentation, symmetry and patterns.
advanced
Advanced techniques can cover anything from lighting, portfolio presentation, composition to working with models. Sometimes as professional photographers we get comfortable in our success. Hearing good reviews from your clients is important but they are not going to look at your images with a professional photo editors eye and give you pointers on how to make better pictures. I will highlight what works and what should be adjusted.
